Hypnosis and Trance have been investigated scientifically.
Hypnosis is a mental state or set of attitudes usually induced by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction, which is commonly composed of a series of preliminary instructions and suggestions. It is the effects of suggestions that produces hypnosis.
Although a popular misconception is that hypnosis is a form of unconsciousness resembling sleep, contemporary research suggests that it is actually a wakeful state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility, with diminished peripheral awareness.
In the first book on the subject, Neurypnology (1843), Braid described "hypnotism" as a state of physical relaxation ("nervous sleep") accompanied and induced by mental concentration ("abstraction").[4]
The 4 Step Process to induce Hypnosis and Trance is:
- Body Relaxes
- Left Hemisphere focuses on a idea or object
- Prefrontal Cortex of brain is inhibited
- Dominance shorts from Left Hemisphere to Right Hemisphere
Left hemisphere is analytical, Right is holistic, and prefrontal cortex is “critical faculty”.
What does Hypnosis do for you? It allows you to accept the suggestion, evaluate it, or reject it outright. Your conscious mind is shut off and your unconscious mind is reprogrammed to go after the goal you want that you identified in the first part of your session.
With hypnosis your subconscious then automatically sorts out what the goal is and then you are aware of behaving differently so that you achieve your outcome. It is that simple. Training your brain to act and respond a different way.
